The Nyxari - The Shadows' Embrace
The Nyxari, or Dark Elves, are one of the most ancient and powerful races in the Nethereach, descended from their goddess and creator, Nyxalith, the Eclipsed Mother, or Nyxa as she is also referred to. As her chosen people, they have inherited her affinity for shadow and her philosophy of balance, embracing both light and darkness as part of their identity. They are proud, cunning, and often ruthless, thriving in a society shaped by ambition and a constant struggle for supremacy.
Nyxari Lore and Origins
Creation Myth
According to Nyxari legend, Nyxalith emerged during the creation of the world, born from the collision of light and shadow. She claimed the Nethereach as her domain, shaping it into a reflection of her duality—a realm of beauty and danger, wonder and terror. To populate her realm, Nyxalith molded the Nyxari from obsidian and starlight, breathing life into them with whispers of shadow magic. She gave them intelligence, grace, and an unquenchable ambition, urging them to dominate the Nethereach and maintain balance between chaos and order.
The Fall from the Surface
The Nyxari were once a surface race, dwelling in harmony with the early elves of Artherion. However, their devotion to Nyxalith and her shadow magic alienated them from their kin. Fearing their growing power, the other elves exiled them to the depths.
Over millennia, the Nyxari adapted to the Nethereach, becoming its masters. They see their exile as a divine test, proof that they are stronger and more resourceful than their surface-dwelling kin.
Lominthal is the capital of the Nyxari race in the Nethereach, a place of great beauty, but also intrigue, danger and deceit.

Hair: Ranges from stark white to pale blue, often styled elaborately to signify rank or allegiance.
Eyes: Their eyes glow in vibrant hues (violet, teal, crimson), enabling them to see in complete darkness. This makes them immediately noticeable even in the shadows.

Distinctive Features
Bioluminescent markings are not purely decorative; they often signify House affiliation, achievements, or devotion to Nyxa. The more intricate the design, the higher the individual’s status.
Their voices carry a melodic quality, but their tone often belies their cunning nature.
Culture and Society
Social Structure
The Nyxari are organized into Great Houses, each led by a matriarch or patriarch who wields immense power. These Houses control various regions of the Nethereach, and their influence extends into trade, war, and politics.
A Council of Shadows oversees the tenuous peace among the Great Houses, but betrayal and assassination are commonplace. Alliances shift constantly, with power being the ultimate goal.
Commoners serve as artisans, soldiers, or laborers, but upward mobility is possible for those who demonstrate exceptional skill or ambition.
Religious Devotion
The Eclipsed Mother, Nyxalith, is at the heart of Nyxari society. Temples dedicated to her are ornate structures carved into the cavern walls, lit by enchanted crystals and bioluminescent fungi.
Worship often involves ritual dances, blood offerings, and shadow magic demonstrations. Nyxa's teachings emphasize balance: strength tempered by wisdom, ambition guided by restraint.
Priests and priestesses of Nyxalith, known as Umbrae, are both revered and feared. They wield immense political influence, often serving as advisors to House leaders.
Philosophy
The Nyxari embrace the concept of "Kael'syth" (the Balance), a philosophy that mirrors Nyxalith's duality. They believe that to truly thrive, one must master both light and shadow, strength and cunning, passion and discipline. However, this philosophy is often twisted to justify ruthless ambition and treachery, with individuals claiming they act in the name of balance even as they pursue their own selfish goals.
Art and Architecture
Nyxari architecture blends beauty and menace, with towering spires carved from obsidian and adorned with glowing crystal inlays. Their cities are suspended from cavern ceilings or built into cliff faces, connected by graceful bridges of spun Aetherium.
They are also masterful artists, creating intricate sculptures, tapestries, and musical compositions that often convey hidden messages or threats.
